Relationships & self-worth

Why do I keep attracting toxic relationships?

The short answer

Because your subconscious isn't picking partners for your happiness โ€” it's picking what feels familiar. If low worth, over-giving and abandonment are what it knows, you'll keep landing there no matter how much psychology you've learned. The pattern breaks when you clear it at the root โ€” not when you read another book about it.

Have you ever had your confidence go from here to down here after a romantic connection? Self-worth at an all-time low. There's nothing like it, right?

And then it happens again. Different person, same movie. You give it all away, you're not respected, and you come out the other side feeling like a piece of crap. So you do the sensible thing โ€” you learn. Attachment styles. Red flags. Trauma bonds. You could teach a class on it. And you still attract the same connection.

Knowing better doesn't stop it

A client I've just finished working with came to me exactly here. She's super self-aware. She's a practitioner herself โ€” knows psychology, knows attachment systems, even does emotional healing work. And she was so frustrated and so upset at attracting yet again another connection where she wasn't respected.

Her words: "I know everything, but I keep attracting the same stuff โ€” and me doing this on my own isn't working."

That's the bit nobody tells you. Insight lives in your thinking mind. The pattern lives somewhere else.

It's not a mental game โ€” it's an energy game

Your subconscious runs your picker. And it doesn't choose what's good for you โ€” it chooses what's familiar. If what's familiar is proving your worth, earning love by over-giving, being the one who understands and accommodates and forgives โ€” then that's the exact shape of person and dynamic you'll keep finding. Your system calls it safety. It feels like chemistry.

You weren't born believing you weren't enough. That got installed.

I see the same pattern under it again and again with my clients: the over-giver. The caregiver role that's been running way too long. Saying yes when you mean no, taking responsibility for other people's disappointment, leaking energy everywhere โ€” and then wondering, why am I so tired? Why am I spinning? (And why can't I think my way out of it?)

What breaking the pattern actually looks like

So my client stopped studying the pattern and started clearing it. We went straight at the root: self-worth first, then week by week โ€” how she felt about taking action, where her boundaries were, whether she was open to giving and receiving love, speaking her truth and being authentic in the world. Voicing it, discharging it out of the body, reprogramming what her system believes is safe.

And life started bringing her evidence. Within the first six weeks she had her biggest month in her business. The money isn't the point โ€” the money is just a reflection of her self-worth. The point is: the woman who kept handing herself away stopped being available for that. Not through vigilance. Through not being wired for it anymore.

How to start

First, drop the self-blame. You're not stupid and you're not broken โ€” your system has been protecting you with old equipment. Second, notice your tell: the moment you start earning love instead of receiving it. Third โ€” stop trying to out-think it, and clear it at the level it lives: the body, the nervous system, the subconscious.

That's exactly what The Spiral is โ€” my one-on-one container for pulling these patterns out by the roots, level by level. If this whole post felt like being read out loud: that's your invitation.

Reading about it is step one. Clearing it is the fun part.
